Driving Directions to The Meadow House

These driving directions are from Interstate I-5 at the Hilt exit (California Exit 697),
just south of the California-Oregon border.
MapQuest and Google Maps can NOT be relied on for directions. They point to the Ski Road location of the mail boxes instead of actual locations on Colestin Road.
On this map, there are arrows pointing the way.
NOTE: The map is not really to scale. It's less of a road map, than a features and landmarks map. If you want more details, we can talk through the directions. Don't worry too much, it's only about 6 miles and it's well marked.
At the I-5 exit marked Hilt (Exit #796), go West toward the Texaco station. There is only one road that goes past the gas station we call "Stateline." It is Hilt Road (at that point).
You will pass the Church, and then an S-curve. Keep to the right and go past the houses. Continue along the road past the old stage coach stop, "Cole's Station." You'll see several barns on the left side, opposite Cole's Station.
The road narrows and threads between the trees. Then you will cross the railroad tracks and a small white one lane bridge over Cottonwood Creek. At this point you are in Oregon on Colestin Road at the 8 mile marker, indicated by a small green milepost sign.
Stay on the road past the 7 mile and 6 mile markers until you see a road on the right with a sign Whiskey Creek Road. 1977 is marked at the top of 2 sign posts.
(Note:If you get to the 5 mile marker, you have gone past Whiskey Creek, and although you are straight west of the house, you can't see it from there. Turn back (south) and take the first left on Whiskey Creek Road. )
Turn onto Whiskey Creek Road and cross the Whiskey Creek bridge. As you come up the other side you will see the Meadow House on the left... you'll recognize the house from the picture in the photo tour. The lane is about a quarter mile.
If you are coming from the North, I still suggest you use the Hilt exit. But here are alternate instructions.
Take the Mount Ashland exit #6 from I-5. Go along the freeway frontage road .75 miles to the T-intersection and turn right onto Mt. Ashland Ski Road. Then go 1.75 miles to the Colestin Road sign. It's a small sign. (If you miss it you'll go all the way up the Mountain.) Turn left onto Colestin Road and wind down the road past the 5 mile marker. Turn Left on Whiskey Creek Road, cross over the bridge and up the other side. Keep to the left. Turn left at the first lane, go through the open gate, up to the house.
Once you have found the Meadow House, you may go up Colestin Road to familiarize yourself with the route, and then these instructions will be clear.
